Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979 to help those suffering from chronic physical/emotional pain and illnesses that western medicine was ill-equiped to deal with at the time.

MBSR is now taught in hundreds of medical centers and other institutions across the nation.  25% of large US companies have launched mindfulness stress-reduction initiatives. Tens of thousands of participants have completed the 8-week course and learned how to use their innate resources and abilities to respond more effectively to stress, pain, and illness.
